Our People

Doug Shull

Owner/Operator

Doug has owned Yorktown Service Plaza since 1972 and began his career as a Master Certified Technician in a 2-bay automotive repair facility.

Yorktown has undergone four expansions under Doug’s ownership. Yorktown Automotive was expanded to Yorktown Service Plaza through the addition of a tire and wheel center, car wash, convenience store, propane, and made-to-order deli restaurant.

Doug’s two sons, Byron and Matthew, have worked alongside Doug since childhood and now they are Yorktown partners in both the day to day and strategic operation of Yorktown.

Under their leadership, Yorktown leads the industry in customer service, skilled and honest vehicle repair, recycling programs, reasonably priced made-to-order food, a state-of-the-art soft touch car wash for as low as $3.71, and state minimum pricing on tobacco products and beer -- to name just a few of Yorktown’s distinctions.

Our People

Mary Hartman Shull

Staff

Mary is one of the newest members of Yorktown’s staff (and Shull family).

Mary retired from Cuyahoga Community College after 38 years serving in several capacities. Her longest-held position at the College was a 30-year love affair with Tri-C’s Western Campus as administrative assistant to the Campus President.

Mary holds an associate degree in Business from Cuyahoga Community College (1976) as well as graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baldwin-Wallace College in Business (1996), proving that it’s never too late to learn.

Mary describes her position at Yorktown as “doing whatever it takes to get the job done.” Mary finds herself happily doing office work, delivering customers to or from home, picking up auto parts, coordinating Yorktown’s charitable contributions, and has even worked in the kitchen on several occasions. She loves supporting her new husband, Doug, and his sons, Byron and Matt, as they work uncompromisingly at providing the best customer service experience in the industry.

Bob Carney

A.S.E. Certified Master Technician

An employee of Yorktown Service Plaza since 2000, Bob Carney has been automotively inclined since he first began working with his grandfather at age 13 who rebuilt cars as a hobby.

He has been a full time technician since 1974, and is specially trained in not only automotive, but motorcycle repair as well.

He understands the complexity of the automobile, regardless of make or model. Bob also utilizes detective, computer technician, physicist and chemist skills on a daily basis.

"The Cadillac Escalade has up to 27 different computers (modules)," he said. Some of the European cars can be more challenging from a mechanical standpoint. But we can fix any vehicle."

"The whole idea of an automobile is to have the fuel to air ratio operating at peak efficiency," Carney said.

That requires a sophisticated knowlege of the vehicle and its individual systems.

"I take the responsibility very seriously," Carney said.
